Newport News wins Green Cleaning Award

We have to offer our congratulations to Keith Webb, Executive Director of Plant Services, Marcella Bullock, Custodial Supervisor II, and their team at Newport News K-12 Public Schools.  American School and University awarded them the 2013 Green Cleaning Award.

Newport News began their program in 2007 by reviewing staffing and equipment needs in 44 public schools.  In 2008, a trainer from the hospital industry began working with teams to improve overall cleanliness and instill green practices.  They created a “Sustainable Cleaning Handbook,” reviewed chemicals, and began to systematically train each custodian in the schools.  Their 246 custodians are now providing 4.4 million square feet of clean and green learning space for 28,569 students.
